Arcata City Council to Consider Land Use Cultivation Ordinance
| By Americans For Safe Access | Published November 14, 2008 |
The Arcata City Council introduced and discussed an ordinance on November 5 to adopt medical cannabis recommendations offered by city staff. The ordinance, which will be formally adopted at the council's November 19 meeting, will offer a number of amendments to the Arcata Land Use and Development Guide, creating standards for medical cannabis cultivation. These standards include a recommendation of 50 square ft. and 250 cubic feet of cultivation space per residence for patients or caregivers - an area that includes all space used for equipment, material storage, cultivation, and processing of medical cannabis. For collectives, the space does not apply to patient intake areas, office space, or employee break rooms.
Additionally, there will be consideration of a cap on monthly cannabis sales - 4 oz per patient per month has been proposed. The city will hear public comment on the proposed ordinance, so members of the community who have a stake in the proposed action should certainly attend the meeting to voice their opinions.
